Peter Davis
Peter Davis has worked in politics, communications and research. His passion is helping organisations and businesses develop and implement the strategies that will help them on the journey towards sustainability.
Peter has been a communications manager in the not-for-profit sector and has considerable experience in advocacy and research related to environmental and sustainability issues. He also has a strong background in writing for public consumption, both for the web, newsletters and books.
His work has involved the development and implementation of campaigns to change minds, change behaviours and and change legislation. This has included conceptual strategies as well as hands-on campaign management. He has a particular interest in the use of multi-media and social networking mechanisms as communication tools.
He has applied his analytical skills to target segmentation, survey design and analysis, and political strategies. He has an excellent understanding of political processes and issues management.
Campaign management has included e-media, guerrilla marketing and network development to reach niche audiences very cost effectively.
Some background stuff
The business began in the early nineties when Peter authored The New Zealand Green Guide [Penguin] and went on to write extensively on environmental issues for a wide range of media while assisting business clients to develop their sustainability strategies. This was followed by a sojourn in academia with a focus on sustainable development, resource management, sustainable land use and habitat protection. His research interests have extended to sustainability indicators, ecological economics, alternative energy and building technologies, organics and green businesses.
Some volunteer and community stuff
Pete has served on the boards of Soil and Health Association, BioGro, and is currently on the board of SANZ (Sustainable Aotearoa New Zealand).
Some personal stuff
Pete tries to keep life in balance by
- Running – several times weekly including the odd adventure half-marathon
- Camping – most summers (with bikes, kayaks, fishing gear, kitchen sink, etc.)
- Canoeing – whitewater, canoe polo, coastal and sometimes pretending to fish
- Mountain biking and skiing – going just beyond my ability
- Motorbiking – more adrenalin than Zen
- Daily yoga – well most days
- Tramping – especially involving boulder hopping up rivers
- Random sports I come across – rollerblading, indoor netball, frisbee, kite flying, squash, table tennis, tennis, bush croquet, and koob (what?)
- DIY, furniture recovery, landscaping
- And most importantly being a dad and a partner and doing as many of the above with my amazing family as possible.
